Reduced recoil loads can be used for the beginning shooter or for someone that is recoil sensitive. Velocity and bullet weight are the two main contributors to recoil. To reduced recoil in a given firearm, bullet weight and velocity must be reduced.
Let us work up some reduced recoil loads for an existing rifle to avoid purchasing a new rifle in a smaller caliber.
Common calibers for reduced recoil loads:
Any calibers based on 30-06:
30-06, 280 Rem, 270 Win, 25-06, etc
Any calibers based on 308 Win:
308 Win, 7mm-08, 260 Rem, 243 Win
Magnum calibers for reduced recoil:
300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag
300 Rem Ultra Mag (any of the Ultra Mag calibers)
300 WSM and 7mm WSM
